Valued for his tireless work at the breakdown and impressive turnover rate, Veteran flanker MATT HODGSON completes a full circle in 2014 and is now in contention for the Qantas Wallabies again four years after making his debut.
Hodgson has previously enjoyed success with Australia and now has six caps to his name, his first coming back in 2010 when the Wallabies recorded a 49-3 win over Fiji in Canberra.
He went on to earned three more caps that year with Tests against England, New Zealand and Italy, including a start at lock in the Wallabies ten point Bledisloe Cup loss in Christchurch.
After a successful maiden year in the gold jersey, Hodgson earned a spot on the bench for Wallabies against Samoa before helping Australia to a 39-20 win over South Africa in Sydney, 2011.
Now 32 years of age, the workhorse flanker has been tireless in 2014 and currently leads the tackle count in this year’s Super Rugby competition.
Hodgson played in the Western Force’s first ever game in 2006 and has now played over 100 games for the Perth side, with his all round game continuing to thrive many years on.
The versatile forward has the potential to play anywhere in the back row but has cemented himself in the number 7 jersey for the Western Force this year, playing a big part in their revival, helping his team to five straight wins for the first time ever in 2014.
He is a four time ‘Force Man of the Year’ and two time ‘Force Player of the Year’ making him the natural choice as leader for the Perth based side.
Prior to his Super Rugby Birth, Hodgson was a part of the Australian side that finished seventh in the IRB World Sevens Series, before joining the Eastwood Rugby club.
He began his quest for the gold jersey in 2002, when he represented Australia in the IRB Junior World Championship, including a spot as the run on flanker in their 24-21 finals loss to South Africa.
