During the last two years of Australian rugby, Scott Fardy has been on a mission to prove you can teach old dogs new tricks.
Plucked from the relative obscurity of Fukushima in northern Japan at the tail end of 2011, Fardy has made his way to the top of the pile and is now considered Australia’s premier blind-side flanker.
Equally as valuable at lock, Fardy combined nicely with Sam Carter to form the low-row in 2013, with both players making genuine impact on the team’s journey to the Super Rugby Final in Hamilton.
A big, strong ball runner who prides himself on hard work, Fardy has developed into Australia’s best tall ball stealer averaging just over one pilfer a game. To put that in context, Fardy was ranked in the competition’s top 15 for pilfers in 2013 behind the likes of career stealers, Heinrich Brussow, George Smith, Liam Gill and Michael Hooper.
The UC Brumbies will look to Fardy for leadership in 2014 on the back of his first European spring tour.
